Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? -Matthew 6:26

As we walk through this adventure called life, we remind ourselves that we are all precious children of our Father-- those of us who have walked a little further down the road striving to guide those who have been entrusted to our care for a time. Here is our journey down this path.

What happens when.....

What happens when you have 2 adults, 4 children, 1 dog, a fish, 1 (surviving) hermit crab and a visiting turtle all in one house???
I got up this morning, kids still sleeping, let Abby (the dog) outside, passed Joe (the fish) in the kitchen to get a drink and as I was standing there in the quiet of the morning, heard a little 'clink, clink, clink'. Looking over at Sunshine (the turtle we are turtle-sitting for Samuel's teacher), I thought, that doesn't sound right for turtle shell on the side of the tank. It sounded like dog food rattling around in the bowl, but no-Abby is outside....
I walked over to the dog bowl and found this....(phone pic--blurry and sideways, sorry) That would be a hermit crab--in a soccer ball painted shell--in the dog food. How he got there, not quite sure, but he is currently resting quite quietly, with a full belly, I am sure, in HIS cage!

The boys are back!!!

And from the looks of it, they had a great time!! :)
We did get to hear about their week before they crashed--both had a ball. I'll have to record their thoughts later, though. I have a little laundry to do!

We have power!!

The last week has had some crazy weather around here. This happened next door last Wed and our power was out for 24 hours until this and several other trees on lines in our neighborhood were cleaned up and repaired. We had a long day of trying to keep cool, taking food to friends' freezers and using lots of flashlights and these.....

We heard it was going to come back on, so didn't abandon ship to go elsewhere for the night. We ran to get dinner, came home to lights!!! We sat down to eat and BOOM...our whole street went dark again. 30 minutes later, back on--for good--or so we thought. Another storm and it was out again the next night -- only for a few hours this time. Then tonight, I had just returned from the grocery store and AGAIN! Wow!! crazy... With the wind and stormy look, we didn't even get rain, so I was outside watering tomatoes and it came back on. I heard feet pattering and the door open and Cynthia said, "Mommy! We have power!!!" when the 3 year old knows what is going on it must be happening too much!

So, Jeff and I are surviving while the boys are gone...distracted being busy at work today. We got to see some pictures on the camp website and they look like they are having a ball!!

With 2 little girls at home, I borrowed something from a friend that makes my heart happy...

It is the complete set of EVERY episode. Ever. I can't begin to explain how much I loved and still do love this show. I really think I have seen every one of them. Ever.

We watched the first one last night and the second tonight (on the portable battery powered DVD player in the dark!!) and Molly is entranced! Like mother like daughter!!

A fly on the wall..........

Is SO what I wish I could be this week. Here.....

You see, these 2 precious guys packed up their 'grubbies' (literally) for a week at camp. Their first ever. And that means Mommy & Daddy's first ever week with them away. They were so excited, we were, well....We picked up our buddy and headed north to NC.On arrival, we were greeted by lots of counselors yelling, "Welcome to Ridgehaven!!!" We checked in, reviewed health info with the nurse, deposited some money in the camp bank for use during the week and then got their T-shirts.Then it was off to the cabin....They both have lots of friends there this week, too, so I know they are going to have a great time.So excited to see each other---it's been so long (a whole 24 hours--literally, they were at church together yesterday!!!) Can we say excited????All smiles. At least for the boys.....after a quick drop off, I got back in the car for the drive home....the quiet drive home. On the way out, I happened to see this guy--headed to the pool with his cabin mates and counselor-let the fun begin! All the way home, I kept thinking, 'did I really just leave my boys???? What am I doing?' But then I remember back to when I was their age and went to camp--Camp Calvin. I have great memories of the week there--I stayed in the Whippoorwill cabin, the first night we cooked our dinner over the campfire. Crafts. Canoes. Hikes. A talent show where our cabin performed 'It's a Hard Knock Life'. Archery. "Bug juice" (pink lemonade) and cookies at night.

I did actually leave without tears. (and I'm talking about me now, not the boys--you can tell they didn't have any) It is sure quiet here at home with 2 little girls. I know they are going to have a great week and I am excited for them, but I am also already looking forward to Saturday!!

What a deal!!.....???

Our boys are headed to camp in a few weeks. (my thoughts on that are another post for another day!) The packing list included 'plenty of grubbies' for playing and I have seen pictures on the website of kids in the mud---completely covered in mud to be exact.
So, this er--frugal mom didn't want to send nice shorts....or even go out and buy new playshorts to send to the mud hole....
So, off we went today to see what we could find at Goodwill. And, success!!!! Lots of great play shorts for cheap! On our way home with our stash and 2 happy boys. I was so proud of myself for my deal!EXCEPT.....on the way to the register, we walked by this..........

Complete with sparkley 'poms' on the handlebars, princesses..... aprincess carrying pack,

and flower adorned wheels.

And, to be truthful, it was a really great deal as well. We actually got Thomas's first bike at Goodwill years ago and it was a great bike. This one looked to be in great shape--a little scratch on the handlebars, but otherwise great--minus 2 very flat tires. I knew if we 'thought about it' even for a few minutes, it would probably be gone, so I decided to take the gamble with the tires and get it....

We got home, unloaded our finds and got ready to pump the tires.

EXCEPT, no bike pump. We used to have one that broke and had been using a small hand one for a while, which now is nowhere to be found. Off to the neighbors I sent Thomas who came back with this:

Problem solved, right??

EXCEPT.....it didn't work. Was it the tires? Or the pump? I had a little trouble getting it connected in the first place and now noticed there was a crack in the tubing....hmmmm, was it already broken, or did we do that....

So, back in the car and off to Wal-Mart to buy, not 1, but 2 new bike pumps....one for us and one to replace our sweet friends' since I'm not sure if we broke or not, but either way, return something in better shape, right????

So, back to my great deal on the shorts........I've completely lost track!!! Did I save any money???? Well, when I look at this smile, I remember the commercial......

8 pairs of shorts $20, 1 bike $15.51, 2 bike pumps $36, a sweet princess on a 'new' princess bike--PRICELESS!

What happened to May????

Wow! What a whirlwind it has been! I noticed the other day that my last post was April 30....I completely missed May. Several people have asked if we are ok--yes, we are great, just busy with all of the end of the year events and now with summer fun. So, to the faithful who haven't given up on us....here is May at a glance....and hopefully, I won't be so long in posting the next events!

Samuel had a sweet 'Poetry Hour' in his class. He chose his favorite composition from the year to read aloud to the class and parents and also had a sweet mother's day letter for a very teary-eyed mama....

Molly had her end of the year ballet party.....our sweet ballerina!

She had a great year with her teachers.

Samuel has started a new sport season on the Rays...and has had quite a few great plays as first baseman. (not pictured here as first base....I may not know a lot about baseball, but I do know that!)

Batter up!

Thomas was in the 'Pied Piper' musical as a rat.....he did quite a nice job of stealing a book from the librarian of Hamlin. It was a really cute play.

Samuel and our sweet friend, Katie, who agreed to accompany him for his piano recital.

Radom pic: Got the carseat out for a friend to borrow and when I mentioned Thomas had used it as a baby, he wanted to try it on for size. Ugh....how did he get so big????

Molly at her end of the year celebration....lots of sweet songs. Here is her sweet teacher.

And our babysitter got to come along, too! We had a great year with Char-Char and are so excited for her upcoming wedding!!!! (but sad that means she is moving!)

And Mom & Dad were there, too! :)

With school out, I have some helpers around the house with a new chore chart.....

Randomness again.....when the 'leftover' school supplies came home, Samuel had a full box and a half of brand new pencils---and these! Ha!

There was a kid's cooking competition in town recently....Thomas & his buddy Will entered their 'Ranch Burger'. All prep had to be done by the kids, the adult could help by opening the grill, etc, but they really did a great job. Cooked some yummy burgers on a Green Egg and came in 3rd place!

The winning team....

And speaking of getting big......May 29 this guy turned 8! Here he is with our traditional birthday morning breakfast in bed. His request....sausage bicsuits!

We celebrated as a family with a yummy lunch after church.

They sang to him, which I am not sure he had ever seen before....his expression cracks me up.

And then a big boy bike that he helped to pick out. Samuel has become such a sweet kid. He has a very tender heart, loves deeply and has the best memory in the family, hands down. He definitely has a strong personality that I believe will serve him well in life and I am honored to be his mother! We love you Samuel!!!

More random shots---Cynthia was asking for milk and pointing to the frige, saying, "I put it in there!" very insistently. Well, finally, I found it--needless to say, she had to wait a while to drink this cup! (In case you can't tell--yes, that is the freezer---ice cream on the shelf above!)

And....this is spilling into June a bit, but, hey....

Miss Tyra, Samuel's sweet, sweet, extra special teacher got married!! She invited her whole class to attend the ceremony and out of 17 children, 16 were there---a testament to how special she is, I am sure. Can you tell he had a good year?

She had the theme of Miss Tyra's turtles this year and had front row seats reserved for her special friends with these cute bows. Afterward, she had a gift for each child. Congrats to you both Destiny & Grayson!!!!!

After the wedding, it was off to another fun adoption group gathering with our special friends. This couch keeps getting more and more crowded!!! Love it! Orphans NO MORE!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Summer to you all and thanks for checking back with us! More soon (I hope!)
